Kaliningrad handles 42pc more boxes in first quarter

RUSSIA's Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport handled 1,625 million tons of cargo in the first half of the year, an increase of 42 per cent compared to the same period a year earlier.


During the reporting period, exports amounted to 1,268,500 tons, up 42.6 per cent year on year. The outbound cargo volume includes 277,500 tons of petroleum products (+25.28 per cent), 757,500 tons of ferrous metals (+66.7 per cent), 101,900 tons of coal and coke (a 1.5 times as much growth).


First half imports rose by 41.3 per cent to 357,400 tons. In June 2010, the port transhipped 251,500 tons, 2.38 times more than in 2009, reports the Portnews News Agency.
