Capacity is set to increase at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), the newest container facility at Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP).
Two ZPMC quay cranes capable of stacking containers 24 across, and six RTGs featuring the latest technology including crane monitoring systems (CMS) and single and twin lifts, have just arrived on the mv Zhenhua.
The delivery brings the total number of cranes at RSGT to eight quay gantries and 26 RTGs
"We are investing in the economic futures of Jeddah and KSA,” said RSGT’s CEO Aamer Alireza. “Our strategy is to spearhead the development of the maritime and logistics sector, ensuring that the JIP infrastructure and our own operations keep pace with market growth".
Commercial operations started at the four berth RSGT in Q4 2009, with full operations scheduled by Q4 2010. According to Alizera, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East's largest economy, has weathered the global financial turmoil relatively well and is faring better than most supported by strong oil prices which have boosted consumer confidence and trade.
