TRAMMELL CROW Co has launched a marketing initiative that aims to attract tenants to a proposed cargo facility at Pittsburgh International Airport that will provide a link to Asia.
Developers hope to build an 79,000-square-metre warehouse, distribution and air cargo buildings at PIT International Logistics Centre, the name given to the planned industrial park, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
James Murray-Coleman, Trammell's senior vice president, said no tenants have been signed. Trammell Crow and its parent, CB Richard Ellis, are marketing the site.
"We have no definite size for the first building. That will depend on the tenant's needs, but we could build one of 104,000 square feet, 200,000 square feet or 400,000 square feet, even expand them," he was quoted as saying.
The report said that the project hoped to attract companies from Asia, after local government and business leaders travelled to China last year to sell their concept of a link between the two destinations, which they called the "Air Silk Road."
"There are two Asian companies bringing cargo into the airport, after finding they can shave hours off their flight time by using Pittsburgh's cargo facilities instead of those in New York City," said Dennis Davin, director of Allegheny County's Department of Economic Development.
