THE cargo throughput of north China's Port of Tianjin stood at 35.28 million tonnes in May, up five per cent year on year, while the containers throughput hit 852,000 TEU, increasing 11.4 per cent, registering renewals of the historical records for both indicators, reports Xinhua.
The statistics show that the port's cargo throughput touched 163 million tonnes in the first five months, up eight per cent year on year. The containers throughput reached 3.83 million TEU during the same period, up 11 per cent year on year.
In May, the port also handled 4.23 million tonnes of crude oil in May, up 42.1 per cent over the same period last year, mostly due to an offshore crude output surge.
Tianjin port launched four new containers freight routes in May, including the routes to west Africa, the eastern US, south east Asia and Taizhou Port in Zhejiang province. It also resumed operation of the freight route to the western part of the United States in the same month.
