FRANKFURT Airport's (Fraport) air cargo hit 204,332 tonnes in May, an increase of almost 40 per cent year on year with maximum take-off weights reaching a record high of 2.49 million tonnes, attributed mostly to an eight per cent jump in intercontinental flights.
"The high growth rates in air freight tonnage result especially from Asia's dynamic economic activity and from the sector's special forte of making available, at short notice, capacities required by industry," said Fraport chairman Stefan Schulte, according to London's International Freighting Weekly.
Overall aircraft movements were up in the month by 2.5 per cent year on year.
