Haldia Dock throughput declines 11% in two months

Jun 3, 2010 Port

Haldia Dock, under the Kolkata Port Trust, recorded an 11 percent year-on-year drop in throughput for the first two months of the current fiscal year, the Hindu Business Line reported.

During April-May the dock handled about five million tonnes compared with 5.6 million tonnes in the same period last year.

The cause of concern for dock authorities is that unless the trend is reversed in next two to three months, the situation might even turn for worse because the river draft will start falling from September/October adding to the already critical navigability problem.

Despite a drop in overall throughput, containers showed a 36.14 percent year-on-year increase in the period.
