LUXEMBOURG's Wallenborn Group has opened a new logistics office at Frankfurt Airport to spearhead its growth in Germany and provide specialised air freight and high value cargo distribution throughout Europe built on gains from German contracts.
Despite some transport companies curtailing operations in Germany, the Wallenborn said it is committed to the market. "We have combined a local team with proven knowledge of the local Frankfurt and German national market with our full group infrastructure and the customer benefits it can offer," said Wallenborn president Frantz Wallenborn.
Hermann Schlienbecker has been appointed manager of the new Frankfurt office offering its full logistics services for airline distribution requirements from warehousing and documentation, to airport-to-airport and direct pick-up and deliveries.
This latest expansion follows Wallenborn's success in gaining business contracts that incorporate the German market. Most notably, it has been appointed to provide Europe-wide distribution for AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC). The airline's handling partner in Frankfurt, Fraport, recognised ABC as its Best Cargo Performer for volume in 2009 with 11-month figures for the airline totalling 31,040 tonnes - 30 per cent higher year on year.
The largest part of Wallenborn's business is distribution products for airlines but it has successfully also developed solutions such as high value and temperature-sensitive cargo transportation.
Growth in the Wallenborn group activities across Europe were further boosted in 2009 by the acquisition of Rutges Cargo in the Netherlands and Haugsted in Scandinavia. "Wallenborn is offering a complete package in individual countries and across all of Europe thanks to our fleet size and specially-focused competences in the group. We now provide service to almost every location in Europe," Mr Wallenborn said.
