Upgrade to Cam Ranh seaport kicks off

May 31, 2010 Port

The Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) kicked off a project to upgrade the Cam Ranh Seaport in the central province of Khanh Hoa on May 26, Thai News Service reported.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said this is an essential infrastructure work serving the socio-economic development and the trade of goods of Khanh Hoa province, the southern central and Central Highlands regions.

As part of the country's seaport system development plan by 2020, the project will also help ease pressure on Nha Trang port, which will prioritise accommodating international tourist vessels in the future, he added.

The project has a total investment of nearly US$27.4 million funded by Vinalines. Once completed the seaport's new wharf will be capable of receiving 50,000 DWT vessels or 30,000 DWT containers.
