CPA to resolve cargo handling crisis in a week

May 31, 2010 Port

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has announced it will resolve the LCL cargo handling crisis within a week in a bid to smooth the performance of the country's premier port and save the unduly spent time, the Bangladesh Financial Express reported.

The CPA earlier suspended the activities of operators at 12 berths and started cargo handling under its own management for an interim period.

"But the crisis will be solved in a week by taking special measures," CPA chairman commodore R U Ahmed said.

The CPA will soon appoint berth operators through competitive bidding, he added.
