Peel Ports has commissioned a double barge service on the Manchester Ship Canal to handle growing container volumes at the UK’s Port of Liverpool.
Consequently, capacity of the service has jumped from 160 teu to 320 teu per journey, with two barges tied alongside each other and pushed by a single tug.
The service operates between Liverpool and Manchester and claims to save 180kgs of CO2 emissions per journey when compared with transport by road.
