The proposal for a container terminal at the Diamond Harbour on the Hooghly River under the Kolkata Port Trust is being revived again, the Hindu reported.
The Defence authorities' had earlier declined to part with 43 acres of its land at the Diamond Harbour for the proposed container jetty by the Kolkata Port Trust because GRSE, the local ship-builder under the Defence Ministry, had insisted that it would need the land for setting up its own facilities.
The Ministry concurred and the container terminal proposal thus got stuck.
At a meeting last week, the Secretary, Defence Production, agreed to part with the Diamond Harbour land to the, provided GRSE was given alternative site on the river front.
