Klaipeda Port to sees a 7% gain this year, to 29.796m tones

Klaipeda Sea Port (Lithuania) plans to boost its volumes to 29.796 million tons versus last year's  27.866 million tons, the Port Authority said. Besides, the projected figures approach record result of 2008, 29.880 million tons. The forecast numbers are based on the Jan-April trend, the Port Authority statement said.

According to an earlier report cargo turnover at the port of Klaipeda in January-April this year have increased over the reporting period of 2009 by 16.8%, up to 9.931.281 tons.

 State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. Currently, there are 17 stevedoring operators, shipyards, other companies at the port providing ranged forwarding and logistics services.
 
Last year Klaipeda port posted a year-over-year 6.3% drop in freight volumes, to some 27.866 million tons. First-quarter container throughput slightly dropped (-0.8%) from Q1,2009, to 62.902 TEUs.
