Freight traffic volumes via the port of Kotka (Finland) 2010 rose by 3.7% in January-April, compared with that of 2009, to 2,793,945 tons, the Port Authority statement said.
The port’s volumes grew thanks to a 17-percent growth in outbound cargoes, to 1,542.973 tons, and a 26-percent rise in imports, to 651.076 tons. Transit commodities tumbled 45,8%, to 251.292 tons.
Container trade at the Port of Kotka in January-April also fell by 8%, to 112,114 TEUs.
Ro-ro cargo volumes dropped by 45.2%, to 5,113 units.
Port of Kotka is a multi-purpose port to handle different types of cargoes, exports and transits. The port is located some 50 km from the Russian border, 280 km from Saint-Petersburg and in 1000 km from Moscow. The port is linked with Russian via convenient road and railroad. The Kotka Port Complex is comprised of the ports of Mussalo, Hietanen, Kantasatama, Puolanlayturi pier (Polish operated dock), Halla pier, Sunil Harbor area. Last year’ throughput of the port of Kotka shrank by 35%, to 7,250.563 tons.
