Romania: Dubai ports authority to invest EUR 1 bln in Romania

Sep 18, 2007 Port

The Dubai Ports Authority, which operates two maritime terminals in Constanta, plans to invest approx. EUR 1 bln in the Romanian sea transport infrastructure in the next five years, Minister Ovidiu Silaghi announced.

He added that, whereas two years ago only one per cent of the commodities entering Europe by sea transited Romania, last year the figure rose to two per cent.

“Our potential is approx. 20 per cent of the total commodities entering Europe by sea. For Eastern Europe, it is a lot easier to transport commodities via the Constanta port than the Rotterdam port,” the Commerce Minister added.

According to Silaghi, investments planned by the Dubai Ports Authority target Constanta, Bucharest, Cluj and Iasi.
