Container traffic up at Port of Montreal

May 5, 2010 Port

The recession is not slowing container traffic growth at the Port of Montreal, Canwest News Service reported.

In the first quarter of this year, the Port's overall traffic gained 7.6 percent over the first quarter of 2009, driven mainly by containerised cargo and iron ore.

Container cargo was up 11.1 percent year-on-year. Traffic with Northern Europe was steady, but traffic with the Mediterranean and Caribbean regions was up 36.6 percent and 19.8 percent respectively. Container traffic growth has transformed the Port's activities for a decade.
