RANKINGS of the top five container lines calling at the Black Sea Port of Novorossiysk changed in the first quarter with Geneva's Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) leading the pack while Copenhagen's Maersk Line slipped a notch.
MSC's share totalled 26 per cent in the first quarter of 2010, which is the same as in 2009. MSC was rated first throughout the last year, according to St Petersburg's SeaNews News Agency.
Almost all lines operating in Novorossiysk demonstrated growth in the first quarter, but Yang Ming, Evergreen and Cosco showed declines in the reported period.
Zim regained the second position in the top five at Novorossiysk in the first quarter of 2010 removing Maersk which had soared to the second position in the fourth quarter of 2009.
Maersk went down on the third position of the rating, said the report. The gap between the two lines was slightly less than 3,000 TEU in January-March 2010, said the report.
Emes went down on the fourth position, but the gap between Maersk and Emes is 815 TEU in the reporting period. Norasia is ranked fifth.
