Trade flows via Magadan Port up 42%, to 121ths tons in Q1

The first-quarter freight volumes via Magadan Commercial Sea Port jumped 42% from the same period last year to 121,000 tons, RIA Sever DV reports referring to the Magadan Statistics data.

In Jan.-Mar. Port of Magadan has seen 102,000 tons of inbound cargoes, a 47% surge year-over-year. Overall, in Q1 there was a 62% slump in sea traffics in the region since North East Shipping JS Company had shut down its operations in the Magadan region.

Port of Magadan is the largest transportation hub in North-East of Russia providing 90% of trade flows to the Magadan region, including the Northern Deliveries. There are four stevedoring companies currently operating at Magadan, the largest stevedore is Magadan Commercial Sea Port OJSC. In 2009 throughput of the port of Magadan amounted to 988,800 tons, including 742,600 tons of volumes handled by Magadan CSP Company.
