PORT KLANG AUTHORITY chairman Lee Hwa Beng and Northport CEO Basheer Hassan bin Abdul Kadeer recently visited the Port of Luka Koper in Slovenia, returning the visit to the Malaysian port complex made last year by Luka Koper port president Gregor Veselko.

Both parties exchanged views on the market situation, and declared they would further the existing Sister Port Agreement between Port Klang and Luka Koper, said a Port Klang statement.

Since the signing of the Sister Port Agreement in November 2006, Luka Koper has become the "gateway of choice" into central eastern Europe, which was further enhanced in April last year by the appointment of Malaysian forwarder Infinity Logistics and Transport to represent the Slovenian port in south east Asia.

Both parties also agreed that they would like the relationship to develop not only in terms of marketing, but cooperation in the form of information exchanges in operational and technical areas, and they are considering the commencement of an exchange programme for this purpose.

As for Northport, the cooperation with Luka Koper will be extended from benchmarking to joint marketing. At the same time, the benchmarking programme will continue to be enhanced.

During the visit, Mr Lee and Mr Basheer also witnessed the renewal of the contract between Luka Koper and Infinity, whereby the forwarder was appointed to promote Luka Koper in five countries: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. The senior officials from Port Klang congratulated Infinity for their efforts and said the agreement key to the success of the Sister Port Agreement.
