According to transport and port handling company Container Finance, the port stevedores' strike in Finland weakened Finland's competitiveness and the competing ports of the Baltic Sea area benefited, Esmerk Finnish News reported.

Finland has been considered a stable country in the past, but now, the transit business is in danger and some of the good flows may move to St Petersburg, Vyborg, or Kronstadt in Russia.

According to Kimmo Nordström, chairman of the board of Container Finance, St Petersburg could be developed as an alternative transit point for Finland's imports and exports. From there, goods could be carried to all destinations in Finland by rail or truck.
