RFID tags could improve safety

Mar 31, 2010 Port

New technology which aims to bring significant safety benefits to terminal and yards through the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has just been released.

Cooper SH's NearGuard safety alert system locates both the direction and proximity of objects in and around hazardous operating areas.

Trucks can be fitted with four sensors, one in each corner, which will respond to any nearby RFID tags. These inexpensive tags can be fitted to numerous subjects including compulsory clothing (e.g. high visibility garments, hard hats) or placed on-board other mobile equipment.
