Mar 26, 2010 Port

Ocean carrier picks deep-water terminal with fast rail link to north
Hamburg Süd said one of its services between Europe and Turkey will start calling at the TCEEGE Terminal in Aliaga, Turkey, instead of the Alsancak terminal in nearby Izmir.

The Northern Route of its Europe – Mediterranean Service, will start the new call with the arrival of the “Nicoline Maersk” on March 26 at Aliaga, which lies 34 miles north of Izmir on the Aegean coast. The Southern Route of its EMS loop will continue to call at Izmir’s Alsancak terminal.

The German carrier said TCEEGE, which is operated by Spain’s Grup TCB, is a deep-water terminal with sufficient capacity to provide fast congestion-free handling. In addition, the nearby rail station provides a fast link to the industrial areas in northern Turkey.

With the new port call in Aliaga via the Northern Route of EMS and that in Izmir via the Southern Route of EMS, Hamburg Süd will offer two port calls a week in the region around Izmir from now on.

The new Northern Route of EMS has the following port rotation: Felixstowe, Bremerhaven, Gothenburg, Aarhus, Antwerp, Gioia Tauro, Piraeus, Kumport, Gebze-Evyap, Aliaga, Gioia Tauro, Valencia and back to Felixstowe.

The Southern Route of EMS has the port rotation: Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Valencia, Alexandria, Beirut, Lattakia, Mersin, Izmir, Salerno and back to Felixstowe.
