Port of Hamburg first among Nordrange ports

- In a survey organised by the Unicredit Bank, the Port of Hamburg achieved an average rating of 1.84 – the best score out of eight ports in northwestern Europe. Rotterdam came out second, and another contender, Antwerp, was only able to make it into fifth place.

The study points in particular to the Port of Hamburg’s future potential. The shipping companies interviewed emphasised the quality of the goods handling, the cargo quantities and the offer of logistics services available in Hamburg. Port charges and terminal costs have also remained stable or have even tended to fall – a point in Hamburg’s competitive favour as seen by the Unicredit Bank’s ‘maritime trend barometer’.

‘The study encourages us in our efforts to continue making the Port of Hamburg fit for the future. In spite of all the pessimists who had already written off Hamburg as a regional port, we have actually continued to do well in the present crisis. We will continue to work hard to improve the service quality and attractiveness of the port, working on the principle that “Good is good, but better is better”. We would like to thank the international shipping companies for showing their confidence in us by voting for Hamburg as a shipping centre,” said Axel Gedaschko, Hamburg State Minister of Economic and Labour Affairs.
