INDIA's first state-run postpanamax container terminal in Cochin on the southwestern coast, which was to open soon will now open towards the end of the year, reports India's Economic Times.
The International Container Transshipment Terminal planned to reduce the Singapore Colombo feeder trades by facilitating more direct calls by megaships to an Indian port.
The DP World-managed port is designed to give access to containerships too large to access the privately owned and operated Mundra Port in the western state of Gujarat.
The first phase of the terminal is to have an annual capacity of one million TEU with space to scale up to three million TEU a year if demand warrants.
