APM Terminals has presented an offer to modernise Callao port's Muelle Norte terminal. The bid will rival the US$1.3bn proposal presented in 2008 by DP World, which already holds the 30-year concession of the port's Muelle Sur terminal.
APM's offer involves building and operating a modern, multipurpose cargo terminal, as well as modernizing national port operator Enapu's existing infrastructure at Callao.
Now that a new offer has been submitted, private investment promotion agency ProInversión must launch a tender for the terminal's modernisation, according to a report by government news agency Andina.
National port authority APN will finish evaluating APM's proposal within 60 days, and Enapu expects the Muelle Norte issue to be settled by mid 2010, the report said.
