GLOBAL marine terminal operator DP World has announced that its new Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has attracted a new customer.
It said that container shipping line MISC Berhad has started calling twice a week at SPCT, after its 1,725-TEU Bunga Teratai Empat started calling at SPCT at the end of last month. This brings the total number of carriers calling weekly to five. The other carriers are: CMA CGM, Gemadept, MCC and Zim.
The MISC service, named the Malaysia East Asia Service, uses five vessels and complements the carrier's existing Halal Express services HE1 and HE2. With the new loop, MISC links Ho Chi Minh City to ports in Japan, China, Taiwan and Jakarta, Indonesia. It is focused on the transportation of refrigerated containers and, as such, each containership deployed on the service is equipped with a minimum of 200 refrigerated container plugs.
The DP World-operated container terminal, located along the western shore of the Soai Rap River within the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, began operations in October 2009.
Patrick Bol, general director of SPCT said: "I am delighted to welcome this new service of MISC for intra-Asia, especially for the direct Japan market. The on-time completion of the terminal and its good road and barge connectivity infrastructure reflects the success of our partnership with the government of Vietnam."
