SHENZHEN's Shekou Container Terminal SCT) now has a railway from the big hub at Shaoguan, 220 kilometres north of Guangzhou, from which cargo can come from Wuhan and Beijing and diverse sources of production in between.
The daily train (six days a week) service now puts SCT within in easy access of Changsha, Zhuzhou, Liling, Kunming and Nanchang.
The first batch of FEUs were sent to Shekou after loading at Shaoguan yard and exported via western Shenzhen container terminal the next day, marking the official opening of the rail service on January 18.
Since then, Shaoguan-Shekou container trains have been running Monday to Saturday daily with a turn around loop of 24 hours. "The stable and safe rail transport service provides more options for local cargo owners," said a statement from the port.
