The Sea Port of Le Havre (GPMH) (France) was granted on December 11 2009 the ISO 28000 certification as compliant to standards of security supply chain management system established at the port by the authorities, the port press service reported today. The port turned to be the first European port certified and the world’s second after Houston (USA).
ISO 28000 establishes high standards for shipping safety, goods and companies operating at ports. It also certifies demands for supply chain planning, systematic and regular measures sustaining security at ports.
Le Havre City is located on the right bank of the Seine (France). The Grand Port Maritime du Havre port is one of the largest ports in the country (its annual freight turnover is more than 50 million tons, largely oil). The major exports of France go through the Port of Le Havre bound for the countries of the Americas and West Africa. The port’s terminals handle a wide range of outbound commodities: shipbuilding industry, petroleum refining, chemical, cement, cotton industry.
