Containers turnover through the port of Hong Kong in 2009 fell 14.6% - to 20.9 million TEUs

The Hong Kong port authorities reported a year-over-year 14.6% drop in containers shipment via its terminals, 20.9 million TEUs in recent year. Nevertheless, in December 2009, the port showed its first 3 percent rise (1.84 million TEUs) in container transshipment as compared with December of 2008.

Port of Hong Kong is one of the top largest ports in the world. In 2008 the port throughput exceeded 24.5 million TEUs of transshipped cargoes. The annual capacity of the port facilities is said to be 456.000 ships.
