DNV establishes Greater China offshore committee

Jan 20, 2010 Port

Norwegian classification society DNV has recently established a Greater China Offshore Committee which will be chaired by Zhou Shouwei, vice general manager of CNOOC (China National Offshore Oil Corporation) and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The committee will be made up by senior executives and experts from the Chinese oil majors, offshore engineering companies, shipyards, design houses and those of the world’s leading oil majors that have operations in China.

The DNV Offshore Committee is said to be the first of its kind to be organised by a classification society in China. “The objective of establishing this committee is to create a forum where senior executives from the Chinese offshore industry can meet to exchange information on new technology, innovation, experiences and practices related to offshore engineering,” says DNV vice president and regional manager Joerg Beiler. “The establishment of this committee demonstrates DNV’s further commitment to supporting the Chinese offshore industry.”

About 50 members attended the first committee meeting in Zhuhai in December and discussed topics that included the offshore market and technology development, deepwater technology development, changes needed for offshore construction and operation, offshore project risk management. The mayor of Zhuhai Municipal Government, Zhong Shijian, also attended the meeting.
