GULFPORT, Mississippi, which handles 200,000 containers annually, closed for 45 minutes last week to allow further screenings of a suspicious export container of silica sand, reports the Biloxi Sun Herald.
Port CEO Donald Allee said the container gave a positive reading during the regular security scanning and port officials followed procedure by stopping operations, closing entrances and exits and isolating the container.
Further investigation of the container showed the initial reading was a false positive, Mr Allee said.
