Cargo volumes handled at the Port of Long Beach (USA) fell 15.7% in 2009 to 157 million tones

Freight turnover at the Port of Long Beach (USA) declined in 2009 to 15.7% as compared with the same period of 2008 - to 157 million tons. Container turnover in recent year decreased by 21.9% - to 6.48 million TEUs, the port authority said.

Long Beach is the largest port of the Pacific coast of the USA. The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach form the U.S. port area, making it one of the busiest freight traffic in the world. In 2008 the port shipped a total 6.48 million TEUs.
