SOUTHWEST China's Fuzhou International Container Terminal (Xingang) handled over 500,000 TEU in 2009 for the first time ever, reports Xinhua.

The terminal has maintained a 30 per cent annual growth rate since it launched its first service in 2003, especially in 2009 even under the impact of the global downturn. Port capacity in Fujian province where the terminal lies in increased 50 million tonnes including one million TEU in 2009. Meanwhile, 23 new berths including 10 deep-water berths were put into operation. Currently, Fujian province has a total port capacity of 280 million tonnes including 10.1 million TEU and 110 deep water berths.
