Containerised cargo at the Port of Long Beach declined 19.6% in November compared to the same period last year, but the overall downward trend showed signs of easing.
During the month, the Port's shipping terminals moved a total of 448,151 teu compared to 557,459 a year ago.
Imported cargo dropped 14.7% to 228,347 teu compared to 2008, whilst exports inched up by 4% , to 114,283 teu. The number of empty containers, most of which are sent overseas for restuffing, declined by 41.3% to 105,521 teu.
As the port entered the last month of 2009, overall container trade was down by 24.1% compared to the same period in 2008.
