Jan 8, 2010 Port

THE MALAYSIAN Port of Tanjung Pelepas has announced the retirement of its chief executive officer Ismail Hashim which took effect at the end of 2009. He had provided more than 10 years of service to the port.

Captain Ismail had been CEO since 2008 and led the port to new levels of growth, port authorities said in a statement.

"PTP is perhaps the only major port in the world that has grown container throughput volume in a very challenging 2009," reported Bernama news agency, adding that the port will announce its throughput volume as the numbers are tallied up at year-end.

Deputy CEO Azlan Shahrim will cover the CEO functions until a new chief executive officer is appointed, PTP said.

Port authorities added that Mr Azlan will be supported by PTP's senior management team in the day-to-day running of the company.
