Jan 7, 2010 Port

SOUTH China's Zhuhai Gaolan port area has launched liner services to Tianjin and Haikou to create "express shipping lines" extending north and south, reports Xinhua.

The Zhuhai-Tianjin service is operated by the Yangpu Sinowell Shipping Corporation, while the Zhuhai to Haikou service is run by the Haikou Harbour Container Corporation, said Zhuhai Port Holdings Group's board chairman Yang Runkui.

Zhuhai port's two 5,000-tonne breakbulk cargo terminals have operated for a year and they helped the port to launch liner services from west area of Pearl River to Yangtze River area, added Mr Yang.

The port began to step forward to a container trunk port when its second 50,000-tonne berth was put into operation. Zhuhai port plans to open two or three international lines and northeast China services and Jiangmen shuttle service.
