Subic Bay International Terminal Corp. (SBITC) recently handled its first vessel, the 1,200-TEU APL-operated Eagle Excellence, at the newly opened New Container Terminal-1 (NCT-1) at Subic Bay Freeport, located southwest of the Luzon Island in the Philippines.

SBITC is a joint venture company of International Container Terminal Services Inc., the Subic Bay Metropolitan Development Authority, and Royal Port Services Inc.

The NCT-1 has an annual capacity of about 300,000 TEUs, a quay length of 560 meters and depth of 13 meters. It was funded by a $215 million loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and is part of a wider expansion project designed to turn Subic Bay Freeport into a major Southeast Asia maritime hub.
