Santos Brasil orders 12 Kalmar RTGs

Apr 7, 2008 Port

Santos Brasil S/A, South America's largest container terminal operator, has ordered 12 E-One rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes from Kalmar Industries.

Delivery of the new machines to the Port of Santos will commence at the end of this year with the final units arriving by March 2009.

The Brazilian port employs five conventional hydraulic RTGs delivered in 2006 and nine all-electric E-One machines delivered earlier this year with three units in the assembly phase, all from Kalmar.

Under the new agreement, Kalmar's Smartrail software will not only apply to the new units, but it will also be retrofitted to Santos Brasil's five other-branded RTGs. Furthermore, Santos Brasil has sought assistance with operator training in the 24-month rental of Kalmar's RTG simulator.

Santos Brasil handled more than 1.2 million TEUs in 2007.
