Dec 21, 2009 Port

CHU KONG Transhipment & Logistics Co Ltd (CKS) and Sinoway Shipping Ltd signed an agreement with Chiwan Container Terminal (CCT) and Shekou Container Terminal (SCT) to link up to 14 new barge services.

The extension of the CCT/SCT barge feeder network to 30 cities and towns and 46 terminals will increase its regular service to 36 in the Pearl River Delta, thus covering 95 per cent of the area from 85 per cent covered previously.

CKS and Sinoway are leading feeder barge companies in south China with a well developed barge service network. The cooperation will enhance the South China Shuttle Barge Service by combining the resources of the four parties, said a joint statement.

CKS general manager Yang Bangming, Guangdong Sinotrans deputy general manager Zeng Haipeng, CCT managing director Zheng Shaoping and SCT deputy managing director Yan Gang attended the signing ceremony at the N Hotel.

Additionally, CCT and SCT were represented at the 2009 China (Shenzhen) International Logistic and Transportation Fair as one of China Merchants International Holdings (CHMI) main terminals located in western Shenzhen.

After 20 years of development CCT and SCT operations have become a vital part of Shenzhen port contributing over 50 per cent of the port's total container throughput.

CCT and SCT currently operate 17 container berths, available for nearly 120 international container lines covering the most global ports.

CCT and SCT are also among the first terminals to achieve ISO14001 Environmental Management System certification. The "green terminal" concept of sustainable development has set a benchmark in the industry.
