Chongqing readies for January opening of western China's biggest CT

CHONGQING's Cuntan port's phase two project, West China's biggest terminal, costing CNY1.1 billion (US$161 million), will be ready for opening at the end of the year, reports Xinhua.

The 59-hectare terminal will build four 3,000-tonne berths with an annual capacity of 420,000 TEU as well as 800,000 tonnes of breakbulk and 150,000 ro-ro units. The port plans to build four more berths in its phase three project with additional capacity of 560,000 TEU. By then, Cuntan port's container throughput will reach 1.89 million TEU, becoming the biggest container terminal in Yangtze River's upper reaches.
