Dec 9, 2009 Port

TOTAL throughput for St Petersburg's First Container Terminal (FCT) from January-November was 954,020 TEU, down 13.1 per cent year on year, according to the Russian Transport Daily Report.

But the November throughput for FCT St Petersburg came to 101,804 TEU, up 9.9 per cent year on year, and a record-breaking volume for any Russian container terminal, said the report.

Growth was due to new calls that increased imports, especially in the reefer segment, said the report. Despite managing at almost full capacity, the traffic control system proved adequate to allow FCT to work efficiently and continuously.

In the period January-November 2009 FCT handled 851,395 TEU, down 13.6 per cent year on year. The throughput of the NUTEP (Novorossiysk) terminal in November 2009 was 10,768 TEU, down 13.8 per cent year on year. From January-November the Novorossiysk terminal handled 102,625 TEU, down 8.6 per cent year on year.
