The Union Minister of Shipping, Mr G.K. Vasan, recently inaugurated a roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) jetty for handling project cargoes at the Port here, according to Exim News Service. Project cargo throughput is steadily rising at the Port.
He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of an oil berth and opened a jetty that will be used by the Coast Guard and the Indian Oil Corporation.
This was his first visit to Paradip Port as the Shipping Minister. The Chairman of Paradip Port Trust (PPT), Mr K. Raghuramaiah, and the Deputy Chairman, Mr Biplav Kumar, welcomed the Minister and took him around the Port.
The Minister also reviewed the performance as well as various developmental projects of the Port and discussed the security issues.
The PPT Chairman explained to him the status of the ongoing projects and steps being taken to revamp the security.
