St Petersburg First Container posts sharply narrowing loss in October

ST PETERSBURG's First Container Terminal posted a sharply narrowing 1.3 per cent year on year drop in October container volume to 90,525 TEU, well down from the 8.1 per cent year on year decline recorded in September, Russian Daily Transport Report.

In the first 10 months of 2009, the terminal handled 749,591-TEU, a 16 per cent year on year decline. Exports totalled 43,412-TEU in October while import boxes came to 47,113-TEU with reefers coming in at 10,953-TEU. In October, the First Container Terminal handled 73 vessels with the average turnaround of vessel of 1,240 TEU.


Separately, St Petersburg port has attracted more calls with the return of the MSC Flottbek, which is not among the four MSC ships usually deployed on the service to First Container Terminal. Besides, the terminal had already handled MSC-operated Reinbek. Lately, an additional vessel, CMA CGM's Rijnborg provides another service to First Container Terminal as well.
