AN Inland Container Depot (ICD) is to be sited in Isiala Ngwa in southern Nigeria north of Port Harcourt and will be operational in less than three years, reports the Kano Daily Triumph.
Local government in the affected area of Abia state has approved the N3.8 billion (US$24.6 million) project and the concessionaire East-Gate Inland Terminal Limited signed an agreement for the 25-year concession so construction can begin immediately.
The ICD, when completed will have a capacity of 50,000 TEU and will service the south east region of the country, said the report.
Said local government chairman Prince Christopher Enweremadu: "In the next 30 months, we look forward to a vibrant economic area, that will meet employment needs of our people so as to prevent some youths from engaging in criminal activities."
