Cargo turnover of the main Indian ports to increase by 45% by 2012

By 2012 an overall cargo turnover of the main Indian ports is planned to be increased by 45% (- to 739.4 mln tons) against 2008 results. As per transportation ministry of India, it is assumed to increase the volume of iron or transhipment by 14.7% (to 106.11 mln tons), coal by – 71.1% (to 126.68 mln tons), containers - by 31.7% (to 161.38 mln tons).

It is planned to increase ports cargo turnover by almost 3 times (to 1.59 mln tons) by 2025.

It is necessary to point out that overall cargo turnover of the main Indian ports amounted to  519.16 mln tons in 2008.
