Oct 29, 2009 Port

GLOBAL marine terminal operator DP World has taken delivery of 15 new cranes at its Jeddah facility, located within the South Container Terminal (SCT) at the Jeddah Islamic Port.

The latest crane additions come after DP World Jeddah took delivery of three new cranes last month. The cranes are intended to increase productivity and operating efficiency at the terminal.

A statement from the company said that the new equipment is expected to be fully operational in a month's time.

Made by Shanghai Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC), the latest delivery comprises three super-super postpanamax (SSPP) cranes and 12 rubber tyre gantry (RTG) cranes.

The SSPP cranes each have a capacity of 65 tonnes and an outreach of 55 metres, while the RTGs are capable of lifting one-over six container tiers and stacking containers in six rows. All the cranes are capable of servicing next-generation mega container vessels, the company added.
