ZHUHAI International Container Terminals (Gaolan) has recently held an event to promote its two 50,000-tonne container berths that attracted 80 representatives from 50 leading local manufacturers, government officials and feeder companies based in Foshan, Guangdong province.
The event, part of a series of marketing activities designed to promote the terminal to local manufacturers in the western Pearl River Delta (PRD) region, was used as an opportunity to showcase ZICT(G)'s facilities, shipping line services and customs clearance procedures.
It follows several similar terminal visits to ZICT(G) by delegations from the electronics, leather and garment industries based in Zhuhai, a company statement said.
Said ZICT(G) general manager Wilson Poon: "Foshan, a city specialising in the manufacture of high-tech products such as electronic and automobile components, RFID accessories and LCD televisions, has experienced an increase of 15 per cent in import and export volume in the last three years. Being the only natural deep-water port in western PRD region, ZICT(G) offers Foshan manufacturers the convenience of international line-haul services."
Covering an area of 56 hectares, with a total quay length of 824 metres and a depth alongside of 15.8 metres, ZICT(G) is equipped with eight super-post-Panamax quay cranes and 24 electric rubber-tyre gantry cranes.
