Pre-1994 trucks will be banned outright from the Port of Oakland January 1 and those made between 1994-2003 will only be permitted if retrofitted with diesel particulate filters, the Shipping Gazette informs.
The port authority announced that it will deny entry to non-compliant trucks, a step beyond the California Air Resources Board's (CARB) drayage truck programme, which includes intermodal rail yards.
"CARB regulations allow non-compliant trucks to serve the seaport so long as certain information about each truck is recorded and reported to CARB for enforcement," said the port authority.
