Morris container cranes at DP World's Southampton terminal are to be decommissioned after two accidents, one in which the driver was seriously injured, according to the Shipping Gazette.
Although the Morris machines have since been upgraded with extended booms, the terminal plans to replace them with super postpanamax cranes, reports American Shipper.
"Parallel with industry trends to larger vessels, we must continue to invest in the equipment to meet customer needs," said DP World Southampton chief Campbell Mason, adding that surviving cranes can meet today's demand, but new ones will be needed.
