Port Everglades has named strategic business planning specialist Peg Buchan the new assistant to the port director.Buchan has been the port's director of business administration for the last two years. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing and monitoring the port's progress in reaching milestones outlined in the five-year business plan established in 2006. She will coordinate state and federal legislative issues impacting the port, and oversee special projects such environmental elements of the business plan and the proposed new master plan.
The leadership was instrumental in developing the port's five-year business plan. Her fresh perspective, understanding of county government, high-powered private sector background, established ties to the local business community and a strong sense of where this seaport is headed in the coming years will allow her to make real contributions to the way we get to where we need to be, said Phillip Allen, port director.
In addition to the promotion of Buchan, the port said Pia Thompson has been named director of business administration. She has been the assistant director of business administration since 2001.She will be responsible for procurement, property management, business permits, contract compliance, franchises, human resources, risk management and operations of the foreign trade zone.
Thompson has been with the port for 30 years, starting out as a mail clerk and rising through the ranks.
