Grain terminal of Tuapse Commercial Seaport handles first wagons with grain

Construction of coastal facilities of a 2-mln tonne grain terminal have been completed in Commercial Seaport of Tuapse, the company’s press center reports. Within the framework of start-up operations (50-75% of the design capacity) the terminal accepted first 24 wagons with grain.

Comprehensive test of the terminal’s equipment proved its ability to operate automatically with application of the latest technologies, the company says.

The terminal is to be put into trial operation in the forth quarter of 2009.

The complex for transshipment of export grain is being built within the framework of the port’s program aimed at satisfaction of the regional producers’ demand of grain export as well as at improvement of the existing facilities’ efficiency.

The complex comprises grain storage facilities for 102,000 tonnes, wagon unloading station, purification tower and a deepwater berth N9А for handling vessels of up to 55,000 tonnes in deadweight.

Tuapse Commercial Seaport OJSC is the main operator in the port of Tuapse, one of Russia’s largest ports. In 2008 the company handled over 19 million tonnes of cargo.
